I always thought that people who spent so much time and money caring for their pets were silly. Why not spend all that on your family and friends and yourself? Then I saw some videos of an animal control worker rescuing injured animals and nursing them back to health. It was very compassionate and kind. He wanted them to live. This made an impression on me. He made a real impact on the lives of other creatures. This type of kindness makes me feel good about humanity. We are capable of helping animals (and each other), so it is great when we do.
